Welcome to the October Edition of The Collector Times! October is my favorite month of the year and Halloween is my favorite holiday. No, it's not because of the spooky stuff, it's my birthday and I enjoy seeing kiddos all dressed up in costume going around collecting candy. Heck, I enjoy seeing adults dressed up in costume and pretending to be someone else. That stuff is fun! Yeah, it's also the night the November issue of The Collector Times goes online. I work on my birthday. The things I do for my readers:) Since it is October, our cover comes from our interview subject, long time friend Drew Edwards. Drew writes Halloween Man, and he has just released a nice digest sized collection of his stories entitled Halloween Man:Superdeformed. This is the cover.
In our interview, I catch up with Drew, ask him about his latest collection, and see where he's going from here creatively. You can read the interview here. Halloween Man is a fun comic that features a misunderstood undead hero and his smart, attractive girlfriend, keeping Solar City Texas safe from monsters from the dark side. It's actually fun and an all ages sort of comic and I enjoy it. In the celebration of Halloween, Jason Bourgeois dedicates his column Grey Matters to a comic featuring Freddy versus Jason versus Ash. Jason says the first two collections are spot on, and if you like that sort of thing, you should check it out. Not to be outdone, Ian Melton provides us with a thoughtful examination of variant covers in comics. On the gaming front, AJ Reardon resurrects her Playing God column, for which I am glad. In this latest installment, she talks about journaling from your character's point of view or even starting a blog for your character to add another dimension to your game. If you have other players journaling in character too, it can enhance the enjoyment of the game by everyone. It's a great suggestion and it brought home how much I missed AJ's column . Welcome back, AJ! The latest League of Explorers chapter, "Revelations" by Jesse Willey is up this month. Next month, I think the grand crashing finale will occur. Each of us who has written a chapter will participate in a round robin marathon of writing. Each will write a scene and pass the story on to another contributor. We're going to keep it up until the story is done. Should be interesting. I hope everyone has a safe, fun and Halloween! Feel free to go out and have some fun for me as I'll be right here, editing my butt off for the November edition. I can tell you that I was personally disappointed. No one sent us one photoshop of a Disney/Marvel mashup. Someone lost out on a nifty Joe Singleton drawing, that's all I have to say.
