Welcome back, fellow gamers! It has truly been a heavy month for gaming,
what with GenCon coming around, and let me tell you, the releases were truly
astounding!
But first, let us bow our heads a moment in reflection of one of the
oldest game companies, Avalon Hill. AVH was purchased earlier last month
by Hasbro, and from all rumors (but only rumors), we will see no more from
this great company. All is not lost, though, for they have a huge backstock
of games, and should be available for months to come. The future, though,
is uncertain.
OK, new stuff. Clan War by AEG hits this month, and from the playtests
weve done, it proves to be an excellent wargame. Not some wargame fluff,
but a true wargame. You historical players out there know what I mean.
Oh yeah, and the dragon minis will be to scale.
Holistic Designs released their space combat game: Armada, and it has
some beautifully crafted minis inside. That and more deck plans than you
can shake a stick at.
Lest we forget, Games Workshop is going into overtime on Fantasy products,
as the 40k line is temporarily on hold for the new edition. The most recent
release has been the Warhammer Fortress. A bit steep at $120, but the
craftsmanship it incredible. Also, the set is huge. All die-hard mini
enthusiasts should love it.
Card Game Time: MTG: Unglued is a small hit, with cards poking fun at
Magic, WOTC, the DCI, and hell, gamers in general. For humor, its quite
good. Five Rings released the next installment of Hidden Emperor, which
has some truly nasty personalities, and also we see the release of Burning
Sands, the Arabian card game from FIV. Burning Sands feels like L5R, but
plays completely differently. Check it out.
From Steve Jackson Games we have the release of GURPS: Discworld.
Prachett fans rejoice, for this book is beyond belief. A complete game
in itself (it has GURPS: Lite) in the back, this product is truly
faithful to Discworld.
Tales of the Reaching Moon is finally available in the U.S., so all
of you Runequest and Glorantha fans sing out. This issue is a catch-up
issue, with lots about Seapolis and more. Available at all good game
stores. (Blatant Plug!)
In smaller game news, the Everlasting book 2 should hit the shelves
soon, as well as a slew of new Dream Pod 9 bits for Heavy Gear. White
Wolf is lying in wait for October, when V3 will hit, yes the third
edition of Vampire. Also, Shadowrun 3rd edition is out, and friendly
to Trolls.
Black Dragon Press has surged back into popularity with Dragon Storm,
and the stuff is literally flying off the shelves. Come on by and see
for yourself.
Finally, a word to the anime nuts out there. REJOICE!!! Bandai is
coming to America, and bronging their choice titles with them!!! Kido
Senshi Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam), Tenchi na Escaflowne (Vision of
Escaflowne), and many others. Now, whether or not they will be subbed
or dubbed is still a question, but they are here!
Evangelion has finally ended its run, but the movies are still to
follow. Where and when is the next question for that.
Well, thats all, folks. If you have any questions, just drop on by
Games Nation, Inc., and ask for me.
