Welcome to the February Edition of The Collector Times! After staring at political stuff, every time I turn on the television set, I thought I'd share with you a comic cover from my vast collection of comicbooks. This may be one of the first independent comics, and was a rarity in the Silver Age. My old friend, Terry Stroud, who still owns The American Comic Book Company, gave the comic to me in the 1970's, because he couldn't figure out a price to place on it.... it was *that* odd.
For those of you who aren't politically or historically aware, this is a fun little political satire of President Lyndon Baines Johnson as a superhero. It was published in the mid 60's, when satires of Presidents were the rage in popular culture. President Kennedy and his family, a couple years or so earlier, were the targets in a best selling comedy record. I speculate that this comic hoped to cash in on that trend, but didn't. That's OK, because it will stay in my collection forever, I really like it. One of these days, maybe in celebration of the next Presidential election, I'll show you the scan of the back of this comic. It's even funnier than the front, and shows political figures of the day that even the youngest of you should be able to recognize. All in superhero costumes! Now, on to other important things....The last day of December, the other computer was hit by a millennium virus, or the hard drive crashed, whichever you choose...we are still guessing over here. It totally wiped out our reminder mailing list, and we didn't have a backup. If you wish to be re-added, or if you want to be sent a reminder when we have a new issue up, please go here. We had the entire Collector Times backed up to CD-ROM, but not the mailing list. We really are sorry for the inconvenience, sometimes one learns from 20/20 hindsight. We think you'll enjoy this edition of The Collector Times! Jamie Coville interviews Mark Waid in Coville's Clubhouse. Joe Singleton reworks Firestorm in Artistic License. Scott Crawford demanded, and got, his own section in The Collector Times, so check out his Opinion Section. Ian Johnston, after a hiatus, has returned with his Console-tations, so be sure to peruse his multitude of game reviews. Also, Craig Gaddis has sold his interests in Games Nation, so be sure to read Gamer's Update, to see what he really thinks. Plus, as usual, a lot, lot more. We are always glad you are here!
