It's time once again for a trip through the mire known as the X-Books. The good news is, the fog is lifting. The bad news is, that it is not lifting fast enough.
Before we get into that, last month we all celebrated the Collector Times' Second Anniversary. Well, now it's my turn! Yup, this little tirade marks the two-year spot where you have been listening to me bitch and moan about the x-titles and Rob Liefeld. Yay me!
On the block this month, are the tail end of the X-Men Revolution: Claremont's return to Uncanny X-Men, which did not come out until last month's rant had already gone to press. I'm also gonna go off on a minor rant. Sounds like fun, no?
Claremont continues to do some great work on Uncanny, and especially gets extra points from me since he spotlights Jean Grey. He also turns in some of the best characterization on Cable, which partly surprised me. The costume still looks goofy on him, but what are ya gonna do?
Speaking of costumes, I really like Jean's new outfit. It's just great. I've heard complaints saying it shouldn't be red and gold, since that's too reminiscent of the Dark Phoenix. For me, that makes it even better. Dark Phoenix was possibly the best story in all of X-Men history, and Jean should not forget that part of her history. This shows she is aware of it, and accepts what has happened, moving on with her life.
This is also the best characterization Jean has had in years. Powerful, smart, sly, and still caring to her friends and family. Not the wimpy den-mother connected to Cyclops forever and ever. This, my friends, is how Jean Grey should be done.
There were, however, a few confusing bits, but after a second reading, it made sense. I even ended up liking it even more the second time around. I liked Uncanny more than the other x-book. Unlike most folks, who felt this was worse. Must be the redhead.
Now, get comfy. It's rant time.
Guess who is taking over Wolverine once Steve Skroce is done is four-issue arc? My good friend and favourite whipping boy, Rob Liefeld!
When is Marvel going to learn? He cannot write, and a monkey hopped up on crack can scribble better than he can. He can't even keep a regular schedule with those scribbles! And his arc is going to be a springboard for a new New Mutants proposal. How redundant is this, folks? If it's a team of new characters learning about being mutants, we got that with Generation X. If it's a team of old characters from the original New Mutants and related characters, we got that in X-Force.
And what else is he doing? He's got Deadpool coming after Wolverine to kill him! Oh no, this hasn't been done before. And while I am not currently reading Deadpool's book, isn't this against recent developments to his character? Maybe this time, Marvel will take the hint and not hire this slacker again.
OK, deep breaths, Jason. There. I'm better now. I've used up all my venom for the month folks. Take care, and I'll see you in thirty.
