Free Comics to Retailers

TAMPA, FL., April 19, 2000 - Following on the heels of the unprecedented announcements that CrossGen will offer a money back guarantee on its products and that they will be expanding the page counts of their monthly titles without a raise in cover price, CrossGen Comics is at it again. CrossGen will ship, absolutely free to all comic book retailers, two complete display copies of all five of their titles one full week before the books are meant for sale.

All comic book retailers will receive two copies of CrossGen Chronicles #1, Mystic #1, Sigil #1, Scion #1, and Meridian #1 from their distributor on the Wednesday before the actual scheduled Wednesday release date. This full week will allow retailers to preview the issues as well as display the copies on their counters for their customers to see. CrossGen has already planned a 25 percent overprint on all of these issues so that immediate reorders can be fulfilled. Retailers placing an order with their distributor by the Friday following the Wednesday they receive the display copies will have their orders fulfilled on the actual ship date of each title. This immediate reorder fulfillment will eliminate any missed sales opportunities for these retailers. The dates are as follows:

CrossGen Chronicles #1 display copies to retailers on May 17, with May 19 being the last date to place orders for immediate fulfillment, and May 24 the actual on-sale date.

Mystic #1 display copies to retailers on May 31, with June 2 being the last date to place orders for immediate fulfillment, and June 7 the actual on-sale date.

Sigil #1 display copies to retailers on June 7, with June 9 being the last date to place orders for immediate fulfillment, and June 14 the actual on-sale date.

Scion #1 display copies to retailers on June 14, with June 16 being the last date to place orders for immediate fulfillment, and June 21 the actual on-sale date.

Meridian #1 display copies to retailers on June 21, with June 23 being the last date to place orders for immediate fulfillment, and June 28 the actual on-sale date.

The covers of these display copies will be clearly marked as such and are meant to only be used for display purposes and not to be sold. These copies are being sent free of charge from CrossGen for the express purpose of allowing retailers and their customers a sneak peak at these books so both can make an informed decision on whether additional copies are needed to fulfill demand.

Said Publisher Mark Alessi, "All along we have looked for ways to provide additional value to all retailers. First we sent CrossGen Sampler so they could review our products before ordering. Next we offered a money back guarantee to cover their customers with no responsibility to them for an annoying return process. Then we added additional pages to our titles at no additional cost to either them or their customers. Now, by sending each retailer these display copies, we have found a way to ensure that each retailer gets their share of early reorders so their customers won't have to go to another store to pick up our products."

CrossGen and its distributors are supporting this plan with a retailer telemarketing campaign, email reminders and notices to both fans and retailers, and an ad in Comics Retailer.

CHAOS! COMICS AND THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION

BRING CHYNA TO THE WORLD OF COMICS!

Scottsdale, AZ - April 17, 2000 - Chaos! Comics and the World Wrestling Federation have once again joined forces to bring the First Lady of professional wrestling to her own comic book this August in Chyna #1.

Chyna - fans know her by reputation as well as by her sheer power. Not content to wrestle other women in the WWF, Chyna has taken on the big boys of professional wrestling, including the Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock, often beating her male opponents to a pulp! Extremely popular with the fans, Chyna has recently catapulted to super-stardom.

Chyna #1 takes the phenomenally popular wrestler out of the ring and returns her to her roots as a bodyguard. Her mission, to protect the life of a rich industrialist's daughter against the Death Cult and its mysterious leader, Kassandra. Kassandra has targeted Chyna's charge and will stop at nothing to kidnap her. But Chyna will do whatever it takes to keep her out of harm's way. Looks like a recipe for mayhem!

Written by Steven (X-Man, Mankind) Grant and illustrated by Jill (Scary Godmother, The Sandman) Thompson, Chyna #1 is bound to appeal to both fans of Chyna, as well as fans of the two creators.

"I think Jill surprised us all when she told us she wanted to do a wrestling comic," Grant says. "She's a huge fan of wresting and Chyna in particular, and working together is going to be a blast. We're both looking to bring the story lots of mayhem and action, as well as lots of Chyna!"

Chyna #1 is a 32 page full-color comic book shipping in August from Chaos! Comics. It retails for $2.95.

For more information on Chyna #1 and other Chaos!/WWF products, check out the official Chaos! website at www.chaoscomics.com as well as www.wwf.com. For further information please contact Chaos! Comics' Director of Marketing, Adam Goldfine at 1-888-CHAOS13 extension 546.

TOONSCAPE BREAKS NEW GROUND FOR COMIC BOOK ARTISTS, ILLUSTRATORS AND ANIMATORS USING DIGITAL GALLERY AND ADVANCED PUBLISHING TECHNOLOGY

Comic book-crazed entrepreneurs plan to offer digital publishing, online syndication services, artist management support and e-commerce tools to artists.

San Diego, Calif. (Apr 4, 2000) - What downloadable digital music did for new and independent musicians, Toonscape.com is doing for comic artists, illustrators and animators. Using advanced digital publishing technologies, e-commerce tools and marketing support services, Toonscape is creating an artist's revolution.

Toonscape, a virtual gallery and "Artist Service Provider" debuts this weekend at The WonderCon Convention in Oakland, CA, to help artists broadly promote, sell and distribute their work. It also will enable enthusiasts and consumers to conveniently find artists, review their portfolios, and purchase digital or hard copies of the work.

The Toonscape Gallery features comic artists, illustrators and animators from a wide variety of disciplines and styles. Artwork is displayed in the custom-designed Toonscape gallery and sorted by a variety of categories and genres for easy searching. There is no cost to the public or to the artist for placing their work in the gallery.

Additional services available to artists will include e-mail accounts, references and production resources, industry news, networking opportunities, and conference registration. Digital comic book publishing and online syndication services are scheduled to be available later this year.

According to president and CEO, Ken Morgan, Toonscape will serve as a marketing and e-commerce partner to independent artists that may not have the resources or marketing expertise to promote and distribute their own work. "A lot of artists and small studios have their own sites where they display samples of their work, but seldom do they actively promote themselves or electronically facilitate retail transactions," said Morgan. "We want talented artists to get noticed, be able to sell their work, and get to the next level. And we won't be the ones deciding which artists get top billing in our gallery. It will be the fans using Toonscape who decide."

R.K. Post, Toonscape member artist and fantasy illustrator calls the Toonscape concept long overdue. "Good artists will have a fighting chance with Toonscape. Many of us would like to have the backing of a big studios or publisher, but they're hard to get into. Toonscape helps artists get their foot in the door," said Post. "Toonscape is all about helping the artist build a name for themselves."

Doug Mier, another Toonscape member artist and the creator of Comic Conspiracy, an online comic book, compared the Toonscape model to the revolution in digital music. "It used to be you needed a big label next to your name to get your work out there and get noticed, but that's not the case anymore," said Mier. "Toonscape is like having your very own gallery and personal agent - only it doesn't cost anything." For more information about Toonscape, log on to www.toonscape.com, or contact us at 619.702.6262.
