Toy Story by Mathew Bredfeldt

Toy Chest #9

By: Mathew Bredfeldt mathew_bredfeldt@hotmail.com

This month was a light one in the world of toy collecting. Let's get started.

First up, I want to clarify something that I reported on last month. It appears that we have confirmation on one of the two Star Wars vehicle exclusives. The B-wing fighter with pilot figure that is supposed to be a Target exclusive, is a definite go. There is only one problem with it, and that is that the suggested retail price is going to be fifty dollars. The Toys R Us exclusive TIE Interceptor is still up in the air, but my sources tell me that it might be a late June shipping date so keep it here for more information. Also, look for twelve inch exclusive figures at Wal-mart and K-B Toys. Wal-Mart will have a Jedi training Luke Skywalker with Backpack, and K-B Toys will have a Hoth Imperial Officer. Look for those to start showing up some time in October.

Moore Action Collectables has another set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer figures due out soon. This is the line's fourth series and will include Drusilla (to go with your Spike Figure), Anya (Xander's love interest right now) and the Gentlemen from the "Hush" episode. No date yet, but I'll have it for you when I know.

The second line of Masters of the Universe toys are ready to go. They are due out in September and will feature Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor, Buzz-Off, Zodac, Stratos and Clawful. The He-Man and Skeletor figures will have a run of only 15,000 figures; while the others will be limited to 10,000 figures.

A little gremlin got into the works at Hasbro and apparently sent off a list of figures that will be in the Episode II toy line. I will not post it here, but if you want me to e-mail you a list, then I will be more than happy to. Remember this is not a confirmed list so I cannot vouch for its accuracy.

It looks like McFarlane Toys got their hands on the license for the "Shrek" movie due out this Summer. There will be a line of six inch figures and playsets as well as three inch figures and playsets. Look for them to start showing up in May.

The Napster-hating music group Metallica is getting the action figure treatment by McFarlane. The figures will be based on the groups 1988-89 tour and will be on a stage full of whiz-bang neato effects. Look for it in October.

DC Direct has a total of six figures due out in the May and June. Look for the baddest bounty hunter since Boba Fett, Lobo with cycle (I hope), along with Eclipso and Gorilla Grod. Apparently, three figures from the comic series Planetary are also going to be made as well. Look for Elijah Snow, Jakita Wagner and The Drummer to be out.

Jakks Pacific is continuing on their streak of action figures for the WWF superstars with new additions to their Rulers of the Ring series. In May, look for figures of Perry Saturn, Eddie Guerro, Raven, Albert and Steven Richards. These will be their first Jakks Pacific figure for each man. They are also going into their third line of Finishing Moves figures with an Eddie Guerro vs Billy Gunn, Chris Jericho vs Chris Benoit and yet another version of the Hardy Boyz. Hey Jakks Pacific! How about focusing on other people and tag teams? I'd like to see the Dudley Boyz and Steve Austin in the next few lines. The Titan Tron Live series is getting a shot in the arm with some new additions. There will be new versions of Triple H, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold, The Undertaker, The Rock, and Jeff Hardy. Look for the Finishing Moves and Titan Tron Live lines some time during the Summer.

That about wraps it up for this month. Look for more news next month. Until then, good luck and happy hunting.
