-- Hey, it's violence and treachery on the water!

Bloodthirsty Pirate Tales #8 is this month's selection from the Pile O' Bad
Indie books. This one actually isn't quite as bad as last month's victim of
my scruitinization. It actually had some interesting li'l bits of trivia for
me to stash in the back of my brain and promptly forget.
BPT is very unique in my mind because it is a collection of historically
accurate stories and facts about pirates and pirate life. It features two
(apparently true) stories, a couple of informational articles, information
on a pirate information newsletter/club, and numerous pin-ups. Oh, and
also a neat pirate alphabet! Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be much
of a market for such books, as #8 was the last issue. However, there were
plans for further historical comics! For you comic-loving history buffs,
here are the urls they listed (sorry, I didn't have time to see if they were
still active sites):
The art and stories seem to be by Richard Becker, with pin-ups by
various artists. Even if you aren't much interested in pirates, this comic
is well worth purchasing for one reason alone... Becker's really darned cool
pin up of a mermaid and a sea dragon! I plan to copy it and give it a spot
on my wall, it deserves to be displayed.
