My aim at Comic Con was to find comics in different titles and styles to review, rather than the ubiquitous super-hero books. "Fire and Brimstone #1" was one such comic, following the adventures of an angel and a demoness as they serve out a "sentence" of recapturing the demons and rogue angels they accidentally set loose five thousand years ago.

Richard Moore's artwork fits the genre of the story well, and remains consistent throughout the book. He adds little background gags in various places, which has always been something I've enjoyed in humor comics. Wes Hartman and Robby Bevard provide stunning color on nice quality, glossy paper.

Moore comments in his intro to the book that readers can expect some some gratuitous near-nudity, and the dialogue contains some mild language. Depictions of violence are part of the story, along with various body remnants thereafter. Parents may wish to preview the title before allowing children to read it, though any child spending more than a few minutes of time per day on the internet will most likely have been exposed to far more than this comic contains.

The reader should remember that this comic is humor, and the situation is set up for the ongoing story of the characters, not to establish any form of statement regarding religious issues. If you are willing to suspend any objections based on personal beliefs, "Fire and Brimstone" is a fun and enjoyable read. The interplay between the two main characters, Fire, the angel, and Brimstone, the demoness, isn't as polarized as one might think. The story doesn't run down familiar, predictable paths, and some of the humor is rooted in the unexpected roles each character plays in the story.

I found the comic enjoyable to read, and for an impulse buy among the thousands of titles available at the Con, I was not disappointed by the title. If you're into stories of the supernatural realm involving demons and angels, and aren't hung up on the stories conforming to a particular dogma, you may also enjoy "Fire and Brimstone".
