Welcome to the October Edition of The Collector Times! NOTE: Some of our writers were affected by Hurricane Sandy. We are skipping the November issue and will resume in December.. On the front page, we have a scan of a piece of artwork that Joe Singleton has drawn for charity.
To win this stunning piece, go read Artistic License for details and help a worthy cause! Of course, we have other things for you to read tonight. Here at the old CT Ranchero we have twins sharing the same brain, better known as Jason Bourgeois and Wally Flores Jr. Jason presents why DC's 0 issues made him drop titles whereas Wally tells us why some of the 0 issues worked. I could not make this up if I tried and they didn't talk to each other about it either. It just . . . happens. AJ Reardon when into writing overdrive so we have a delightful 3 book review and her roleplaying column Playing God. Plus we have a whole lot more, so please take some time and look around! I love the Hunger Games books. I love the movie. My husband stopped by Walmart about a month ago and bought me the DVD with the mockingjay pendant. Since we were going to watch the movie, I put on the cheap mockingjay pendant like the good fangirl I am to watch the movie in. Two days later, I was going to work and realized I still had the Walmart mockingjay pendant on. I thought that maybe once of my coworkers would recognize the symbol so I work that sucker to work. No reaction, nada! So I decided I was going to wear it until I got a reaction. I finally did, on a driving vacation up to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone with my husband. One young woman who worked at a bakery we stopped at in Texas came galloping across the store to talk to me about my necklace. It was such a fine reaction, I kept it on and periodically all over the desert southwest, young people recognized it and came over to talk to me about it. The middle aged waitress in Salt Lake City was the exception to the young people, but in some ways more satisfying. She informed me, In the bastion of Mormonism, that she was SO glad that her daughters quit paying attention to that Twilight junk and became fans of The Hunger Games. And a big shout out to the waitstaff at a certain eatery in College Station, who made me feel like a geek goddess with their recognition of my cheap Walmart necklace. I'm still wearing it and having a great time doing so. My coworkers don't even notice, because they know I love birds, so they just assume it's some bird pendant that I like. Those who know what it is freak out and acknowledge it. I guess they don't expect someone their parents age to be wearing it. Always blow people's expectations out of the water, you'll have more fun that way. Oh, and some times writer for the CT and full time oldest daughter of mine, Sidra Roberts Roman, is going to make me a grandmother at the end of March. I'm already plotting how to be the greatest Grandmother evah!
