Welcome to the September edition of The Collector Times!
I have a lot to talk about this month, so lets cut to the chase.
Our cover comes to us this month courtesy of Shannon Denton.
Its the front cover of his latest all ages comic Markus Fang.
I first met Shannon online when he was promoting his High
Stakes Adventure comic. I have always been impressed with
Shannons work ethic and his commitment to trying to produce
entertainment that will appeal to the mid range age of children, as
well as to the adult market. I also like Shannons clean animation
style art. We have tried to connect at ComicCon International
before to do an in person interview, but it hasnt happened. This
year it finally did. I think youll find my
interview with Shannon Denton interesting, because we cover a whole lot of
aspects of Shannons career in comics, animation, film and
television. Its a rare look into the life of a multitalented creator,
and I think youll enjoy it.
On the business end of the comics industry, retailer Brian Hibbs,
owner of the award winning store Comix Experience in San
Francisco, is unhappy with some of Marvels policies. Jamie
Coville finds out why when he interviews Brian this
month in Covilles Clubhouse. This interview also provides a
view that you dont usually see of the comics business.
Its contest time! We are giving away a print done by Phil Moy
in the animated Batman style. To see the print, to learn the rules,
and how to enter, click on the banner. Its a really nice print, you
should enter the contest!
Youll notice that Tim Till returns this month with a Rants
about the latest fad in gaming. Were glad to have Tim back,
and his article is hilarious, so check it out. Cil Cheung writes
another column about a manga comic, this month FLCL.
We also welcome back Brett Schmidt, after a summer hiatus, to
the art gallery. Jason Bourgeois, after seeing Jamies
interview with Brian Hibbs, decided to get in the spirit of things,
and piss off X-fandom, in Great X-pectations . . . so go
read it and be offended. You can tell that weve been to San
Diego, be sure to look at all the Indie comic reviews this
month. Jon Morrell went to the Fantasia Film Festival in
Montreal and tells us about it. You should be scared.
Ah, too much to talk about, too many procrastinating writers,
and deadlines. Ill quit for this month. Enjoy!
